What is it like to worship at Lighthouse?

We gather as a church to worship God every Sunday morning. The main entrance is the large door facing the street, and the ramp entrance next to the parking lot is open until 10:05 am. On your way inside, you can expect to be welcomed (but don't worry, we're not all extraverts, and we won't overwhelm you). People often greet one another before service starts at or just after 10 am.

Our Sunday worship lasts about an hour and twenty minutes most weeks. Our musical style is a blend of traditional hymns and contemporary worship music. Afterwards, there is a time for fellowship with light refreshments. Feel free to wear the clothes you find comfortable; you'll likely see people in sweatshirts, in dress shirts, and anything in between.

A typical order of service includes:

  • Announcements relevant to the church

  • A brief passage of Scripture as a call to worship

  • Multiple songs designed to worship God and build each other up in faith

  • An update about global missions or local evangelism

  • A time of corporate prayer

  • A Bible reading for the week's sermon

  • A sermon anchored in the text of the Bible

  • A closing song and benediction

Sometimes, we'll have additional elements to our worship:

  • The Lord's Supper (the first Sunday of each month)

  • Testimonies

  • Greet your neighbor/"pass the peace"

  • Corporate thanksgiving for God's work in our lives

What if I have kids?

We believe that children are a part of the church, and we're excited to welcome them in! We love to hear little voices (and yes, we know that those voices sometimes speak up right in the middle of the sermon).

We provide a nursery downstairs where parents can bring their young children. The nursery is equipped with toys, a  changing table, chairs, and a television with the service livestream.

Parents are free to use the nursery or keep their kids with them in the main space, and we have families who choose to do both. If your kids need to take a moment to move around or calm down, there is a space behind the sanctuary near the entryway, as well as the downstairs and nursery.

Is Lighthouse disability-friendly?

Yes (or at least, we're trying to be)! We're happy to have a congregation of all ages and abilities, including people with physical and developmental disabilities.

The upstairs of the church, which includes the main sanctuary, a large meeting room, and a single-person bathroom, is handicap-accessible from the ramp next to the parking lot. Note: the door at the top of the ramp is locked at 10:05 am, but there is a doorbell that you can ring and someone will let you in if you come later.

Even as we try to be respectful of everyone else as we worship together, we understand that not everyone will be perfectly still and quiet during the service. There are a couple places to step out if you need a moment, full bathrooms downstairs in addition to the single-person bathroom upstairs, and a more open seating space in the back. (You can expect to see a very gentle service dog in the back of the sanctuary.)

If you have had a negative church experience in the past, or felt like you didn't belong because you or a family member has some kind of a disability, we want to encourage you to come give it a try with us some Sunday. Every person is made in the image of God, and a church without people with disabilities doesn't look the way Jesus intended it.
